Metheny burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974, playing and improvising in a contemporary way while remaining deeply grounded in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. A musical pioneer, Metheny reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation. His body of work includes a 60-album playlist with compositions for everything from solo guitar to orchestral and ballet pieces and genres spanning from modern jazz to rock to classical.
